Problem posting with Norton Personal Firewall.

6 posts in this topic

I just installed Norton Personal Firewall 2004 and it prevents me from posting unless I first disable the firewall.

I get the following message from the board software after I press continue:

The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host.

Anyone have any experience with this? It's relatively easy to temporarily disable the firewall, but it's a pain if I'm going to do lots of posts.

There are settings where you can specificaly set up to allow access through the firewall to the boards. I use a mac, so i am not sure were on the pc you will need to change the settings. there should be an allow/disallow panel in the NPS software where you can do this...

Try this

Click Privacy Control / Configure / Advanced / Add Site.

In the New Site/Domain dialog box type: http://boards.collectors-society.com

Click OK.

Select the newly created entry for http://boards.collectors-society.com

On the User Settings tab, uncheck "Use ad blocking settings."

Ensure that Permit is checked.

Click OK to close any open windows.

There is a setting of "Browse Annonymously" or something like that.

You need to uncheck that box.

Sorry, I can't tell you exactly what it is or how to turn it off until I get home next week.

It's just a single setting that needs to be unchecked.

There is a post up on one of the help boards about this.

I went several months without being able to post until I found it there.

That same thing happened to me.

I just turned off the privacy control and now it works, the only bad thing is,is now pop-up's keep popping up on my computer.

Hope this helps.

Jamie.

I added

collectors-society.com

to my privacy list. (Note that I took off the 'www.' the software put at the front so just collectors-society.com shows up in the list.)

Then I experimented enabling and disabling settings.

I believe the setting for:

'information about visited sites'

was the specific one that I needed to enable to get this to work.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
