as an aside, why does "Firehair" often appear on covers as a brunette??

That's not Firehair. Firehair is a red-haired white girl that was taken in by a tribe of Dakota Indians, and she dresses in either a green dress with fringe or buckskin. Sometimes the covers don't actually seem to relate to any of the stories or characters in an issue, and this is one of those times. There's no hanging story in the issue, no dark-haired woman on horseback at all.
