OT: DVD/VCR combo or DVD Recorder?

Anyone have one or the other, and what's been your experience?

 

I got the Toshiba SD-V391 combo for Christmas, and I'm wondering about returning it and spending more to get a dvd recorder.

 

I'm thinking I should save the extra money to buy comics.

All the sales boobs keep telling me I can record my HDTV channels on a TIVO, but I haven't made the effort yet to find out if the picture quality of DVD recorders etc. is coming close to 1080. If it doesn't, I'll be keeping the VCR for awhile.

Just bought a double DVD/VCR machine. Those of you with children (just wait Brian ) will note that since there are a zillion Disney tapes in my house already, I must have a VCR. I'm quite pleased with the double machine, and they're VERY cheap - I got mine for $129.

Combo machines are notoriously liable to go wrong. The combination of technology in the size available causes problems. Get the DVD recorder.
