Platinum age swipe ..... hmmmm

I had picked up 2 Platinum-era cartoon strip books "Keeping up with the Joneses" by Pop

Momand and "Bringing up Father" by George McManus at a local Flea Market.

I quickly looked in each to check the condition of the interior and the first pages

that I looked at in each contained the following strip:

The idea is the same and is executed slightly different but one had to have

been influenced by the other. Especially in the last panel. The gentleman

is on a ladder while the lady is holding the picture with question mark dialog balloon.

The McManus strip is copyrighted 1919 and the Momand strip doesn't have a

date on the strip but the book which reprints the strips is copyrighted 1920.

So...... I wonder who came up with the idea first?

This will haunt me for the rest of my life.

 

 

Or at least until supper time.
