Auctions running too long?

24 posts in this topic

As a seller, I almost always do a 5-day listing on Ebay.

I've tried listing at 7 and 10 days and found that there is no upside. In fact, there is a sense of the auction getting stagnant since it doesn't move at all during the middle days.

When an item is hot, like the latest hot cell phone, I've found that listing at a short 3 days makes almost no difference. It will always make it to market price, then whether or not a bidding war ensues to get you the extra $ is just chance.

Anyways, 20 days is crazy long.

There are better ways to get exposure. Like advertising or previewing. Once an auction hits, you want good excitable action. That's what an auction is to me. Who in the world can keep anything up for 20 days? Even with a sack of viagra?

I place a tracking bid the first day then hope I don't forget when the auction ends. I've missed a number of bids after losing track over a three week waiting period.

Probably costs the consignors some money on every auction.

That's what all of those CL auction e-mails are for.

As seller I would like 14-days as the max for the auction.

Also as a buyer if I really want the book then the auction could be a month long and WOULD NOT forget.

I say 10 days...Start em midweek and give them two weekends of exposure...ending them at some point in the weekend.

I'm also a vote for extended bidding while a bid is placed concept as well.
