I can't see creases either in hand or in scan. I was leaning towards 8.5 for this and I can't decide i've i'm simply being harsh or not

I think when Rodey said "creases" he meant the finger bends along the spine on the back cover. There are 3 or 4 that are quite evident. That along with the blunted lower left corner on the back cover and the 2 or 3 spine ticks on the front cover is what will knock this down to an 8.5 to 9.0.
