These phrases dominate the most viewed pieces for the day and week on CAF's home page. I didn't know so many art collector's needed to get laid so badly. There is way too much smut on that site. It's 10 times worse than the stuff people have up that they no longer own. Maybe Bill should offer an Adult Premium Service, he'd probably make a mint. So many classic's on the site such as Jubilee giving The Juggernaut a hummer...b i t c h.

It is a shame. Funny though, I've been thinking the same thing lately while perusing feebay's original comic art section. Things have changed a lot in less than ten years.

It's annoying but it's not surprising. Just like every other hobby untalented people are attracted to it because of the money and unsophisticated tasteless collectors buy the "bargains".

 

I'm no prude and I have no problem with nudity of any kind in a piece of art but you need two things:

 

1 - talent

2 - Since we're talking about comic art you have to be related to the field somehow.

 

I look at it like nudity in a movie. Nudity in a good movie works. Frank Frazetta, Adam Hughes, Jeffrey Jones, Wally Wood all have done nudity and their stuff sells fine. It belongs on CAF even if Woody's later stuff gets a little hinky.

 

The stuff I'm talking about is the no-name amateur cranking out just terrible stuff specifically to find the lowest common denominator. That's akin to really bad porn. With ugly hairy actresses. In a wood paneled basement on a soiled carpet near a plaid couch. Kind of like what I remember as a kid in the 70's.

 

Throughout most of history people have bought art because they find beauty in it. On the internet, a lot of people are also whores for hits. They see a provocative AH! piece get a billion hits in a day and they only see the obvious salacious aspects of the piece and try to find pieces that capture that. I've noticed there are also a large number of internet groups of amateur artists that all post images of their pornographic garbage and they all congratulate each other on it. There are a lot of those groups and they're huge. That's where a lot of these hits are coming from. As you can tell I was baffled by this too and looked into it a bit to figure it out.

 

So to sum up my thoughts on this, there's nothing wrong with nudity on CAF. I take issue with things that are in no way related to comic art or professional work of any kind being dumped into CAF for the sole purpose of generating hits. I think if all that stuff was gone not nearly as many people would object to the occasional nude Frazetta or AH! piece coming up in their queries.

I find it frustrating as I'm not so much into the nude OA and when it makes looking on CAF or eBay a little tricky when I'm home--don't need my wife thinking that's what I'm into, and I've given up on perusing those sites altogether during my lunch break at work--really don't need to have any of that show on my computer history.

 

And while I can appreciate an artistic approach, probably >95% of what I end up encountering is more akin to the trash CollectingFool described.

I have to comment on this...cause this was something that I brought up before.

 

I agree. There is nothing really wrong with nudity if it is done in a tasteful way !

But there is one thing that I am so disgusted by, and this is if nudity is combined with violence.

 

There clearly is NOTHING COOL OR ARTISTIC about it!

Regardless how talented or well known the artist is !

 

It is flat out wrong ! And should get banned from any website there is.

Why promoting or supporting rape or violence towards women. Give me one reason ?

 

To be more specific...there is a piece (it is marked mature and only viewable when you are logged on to CAF) by Kevin Taylor, it is called The Goblin & Mary Jane.

 

Whoever wants to look at it....please do.

Andreas T. is a perfect example of this. First he flooded the gallery with masterpieces like "Huntress Likes Nuts". That was bad enough, but now Andreas has decided to start drawing this mess himself and boy does he suck. Probably got tired of asking people to draw Batman's junk so he figured he would learn himself and post every attempt on CAF.
