I am a huge fan of the original Universal horror films and collect lobby cards from them but I liked this trailer, basically going into it understanding this is the 21st century!

Gene is right. VanHelsing is in the Bram Stoker novel. He is the probably the 3rd most prominent character (behind Dracula and Mina Harker), and has the second most (behind Mina) "entries" in the book. (If you haven't read Dracula, it is comprised of journal entries from various characters, making up the complete story. All written "in character". A fantastic book).

 

In the more recent 'Dracula' (the Coppala movie), he was played by Anthony Hopkins.

No doubt, Chris, Dracula is a great book.

The thing I liked about Wolfman and Colan's later run on the comic is the way they sort of expounded on Stoker's original novel, while also bringing Dracula up-to-date. Dracula is a killer, but he kills out of necessity and he still posseses a quite nobility (similar to Dr. Doom). Probably the best issues of Marv and Gene's run is the one where Drac's wife at the time brings back his dead son, who then becomes a 'holy crusader' out to kill his own father..

And how did we get from Pitch Black, which was a tasty scifi flick to The Chronicles of Riddick which looks really disappointing? It looks like warmed over Dune outtakes!
