My favorite Golden-Age covers would include any of the following in no particular order:

1) Detective Comics #29 - gorgeous Batman cover with the Moon and castle

2) Superman #14 - famous Superman patriotic cover on black background

3) Adventure Comics #73 - underappreicated Manhunter cover done in green

4) Famous Funnies #214 - absolutely stunning red Moon Frazetta cover

5) Punch Comics #12 - breathtaking skull cover

6) Suspense Comics #8 - classic L.B. Cole spider cover. Mile High copy of this

book is absolutely flawless.

7) Blue Bolt #105 - a much underappreciated L.B. Cole si-fi cover

8) Any of the classic Lou Fine covers such as National #7, Hit #1 & #11, MM #3

& #8, WW #7 & #8, Jumbo #10 & #11. Need I say any more.

These are just a few that come right off the top of my head. Probably a bunch more which I am missing. smile.gif

Thanks, Shield - some very cool covers that you don't see every day.

Just out of curiosity, what is it that makes you collect MLJs? I know

nothing about these since they were not published back home.

Well, it all started with that RedHead....Mr. Andrews....aka "chick"...aka "Arch"...

Mom bought these for me when I was 5 (1978) and I actively purchased whatever I could find until around 2000; then someone told me about EBAY. I bought an early Pep to read about Archie, and really enjoyed the rest of the work.

Go here to read some complete MLJ's, scanned by yours truly.

Pep Comics #31

I don't know; maybe it was my fascination with WWII (MLJ ran from 11/39 to 1945, with a couple of titles lasting until 1948 with Pep #65).

I guess it was the coolness factor of having a book with such violence and having Archie in the back of the book, plus the great artwork that appealed to me.

Here's a short list of artists who worked at some point for MLJ:

Irv Novick, Bob Montana, Bob Fujitana, Harry Lucey, Jack Cole, Sam Cooper, Carl Hubbell, Charles Biro, Al Camy, Lin Streeter, Ed Smalle, Joe Blair, Paul Reinman, Harry Sahle

And let's not forget Neal Adams' first work was in Archie in 1959; Archie's Joke book #41.

Just about every other Captain America #1-37.
