If anything, I'd think that if we were trying to "sell" the country, the strong economy would be a good point to mention.

 

I don't know, it didn't ring a bell to me as a dig.

 

Sometimes improv. speech is tough and people say things that are not exactly germane (or appropriate) to the conversation but not really mean anything negative by it.
