los angeles comic book and scifi convention at Shrine

I usually sell at the show and haven't heard when the next one will be.

I know Bruce was concerned with all the other shows going on earlier this year - Long Beach in February, Wizard in April, etc., so it sounded like he was going to take some time off and regroup - hopefully make it better....

Thanks for the update. I havent been there in a few years but wanted to stop by and check it out for old times sake. The last update I found was for January.

Is the Anaheim Wizardworld confirmed to happen?

Well, first off, you neglected to mention the abundance of toys, porn, and bootleg DVD's. :)

However, as a stupid West Coast dealer who has actually set up at the show a few times in the last year, I can say that the selection of cheap stuff is actually quite impressive. I made money selling quarter books, dollar books, and trades at 50% off. Now, any comic I had priced at more than $1 just sat there all day, my CGC books, anything nice, $0 sales. People stopped, looked, commented sometimes, and just left. But the cheap stuff did well.

Also, I've found a lot of great deals at that show, but you have to dig. I found a stack of modern signed variants for $3 each that I immediately flipped for $15-40 each. Yes, I know there are dealers that price their nice stuff high, their decent stuff high, and so on, but sometimes you get the people just tired, frustrated and willing to BLOW IT ALL OUT for the bargain hunters out there. Heck, the last show, I had books worth $5-10 each that got bought outta my quarter boxes that I missed on my initial pass through the collection I was reselling that day.

I haven't heard anything either, but the longer Bruce waits between shows, the more ready any steady customers are to buy next time. Hopefully he'll focus more on the LA comics talent since the movie and TV promotion opportunities aren't happening anymore.

Ya this show is definitialy not what it used to be. (its been more of a non comic show for more thn 6,7 years) I remeber when I first started going to the Shrine convention almost 20 years ago when I was kid, it was virtually all comic books with tins of X-men 1s, AF 15s and allkinds of golden and silver age at virtually all the tables. The good old days.

I agree with Joel, I to have set up here and have always done good with my Dollar books and occasionally sold some CGC books. I have found quite a few "Diamonds in the Ruff" and have flip them. Don't listen to everything SOT/ Cobra Commander say's, he has found some books there as well and sold then here on these boards. He'll bad mouth any show if he can't find the books he's looking for. But I still love you like a brother man......! :foryou:(worship):hi:lol

Yep, it's definitely more of a garage sale atmosphere rather than a high end show. I learned to leave my expensive stuff at home and just stick to the cheaper toys and comics. Not sure what Bruce can do to address it without off some dealers, but it would be nice of him to dump the porn and bootleg sellers, and try to upsell it a little more. Probably though with that location it's always going to be like this....
