How many frickin first appearances does Hellboy have !?!? lol

Dime Press = Hellboy Prototype on the cover only

SDCC #2 = First Hellboy

Next Men #21 = First Full-color Hellboy

Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1 = First Solo Title

(thumbs u

What he said.

Someone convincing CGC a few years back Next Men 21 (with a case of them sitting under the desk) was his 1st appearance is what caused the confusion.

At least it isn't like the Goon, with Avatar Illustrated 1998, Dreamwalker 0, Barbie & Ken Special 1, and then Goon 1.

SHOOT! Did I let the cat out of the bag about B&K 1? :o

:signfunny:

:o (Scrambles home to go through his longbox of Barbie and Ken back issues. )

You see that's why I don't collect HELLBOY. He is a COOL character, but he has WAY too many ''FIRSTS'' I just don't know what to get.

It doesn't seem that tough as other characters have similar "firsts".

People like Hulk, Magneto, and a slew of others have "prototypes" that predate the first appearances of the incarnations you know today. If you collect those, then go after the Dime Press book.

SDCC#2 is a short story, but it's complete, in B&W, and it calls Hellboy by name as well as shows him looking like he does today. This is an actual first appearance.

Next Men #21 is the first appearance of Hellboy in color. The Ninja Turtles first appeared in color in issue #7. Which issue is more collectible, #1 or #7? #1 is analogous to SDCC#2, #7 is analogous to Next Men #21. You decide.

Hellboy: Seed of Destruction was only mentioned as his first solo title is mentioned on the label. This would be akin to Beast or Iceman getting their own title. X-men 1 is still their first appearance.

Of course, that's just my opinion. :)

One clarification to Adam's post. I think NM 21 is more significant than just 1st color appearance. It is his first mainstream appearance in a comic with regular distribution. The SDCC is just that, a comic you could only get by going to SDCC.

That's a fair note.

I got a great Zeck sketch in the recent opportunity, so I figured I'd share the wealth by offering this one at less than cost.

Marvels Project #1

CGC 9.8 SS signed and sketched by Mike Zeck (he doesn't do many recreations)

$240

Now I gotta run out and find 10 copies of B&K #1 before the price goes through the roof! Don't tell anyone else!

San Diego Comic Con #2 (1st appearance of Hellboy)

CGC 9.4 SS signed by Mike Mignola and Matt Wagner

There's also an unwitnessed John Byrne sig on the first page that's not noted on the label, so I guess you'll have to take my word on that.

Great opportunity for additional signatures...look at the names on the bottom of the book. A GPA 9.6 SS sold for about $200, a 9.2 SS went for $100, so lets split the difference.

$150 On Hold
