The cover of Marvel Presents 12 is an exact tribute/parody of a Golden Age cover, right? Which cover? Should that be Human Torch busting through the wall and Toro strapped down next to the female victim?

You think it's a composite of Schomburg covers?

I was thinking the Mad Doctor with the scalpel and the other victims in tubes on the right pointed to one particular cover, but it could well be "typical Schomburg."

I think there are 3 different scenes blended into one.

 

The hero breaking through the wall.

The heros in tubes (could be taken from an X-men or a Legion cover...can't quite remember)

The lady in distress.

Good match -- thanks. That must be the Torch breaking through the wall image that I was thinking of.

 

I think Roy is right that I was combining several covers together (as the artist did).

The "other victims in tubes" theme is pretty common on both comic and pulp covers.
