REALLY early Four Colors, more books added!

78 posts in this topic

Well, maybe those Four Colors are just a bit too new for this crowd, so let's step back a couple years.

Tip Top Comics #6, from 1936

Book is flat and square enough, but has a 2" split lower spine, a small tear lower RH BC, and a light stain, should be visible in scan, upper BC. Doesn't affect book, barely seeps through to interior of cover. General wear, tight spine and CF, supple creamy interior pages.

EDIT

Also a 1" split at upper spine.

END EDIT

I'm a bit aggressive on this early of a book, I'm asking $140.

Young Romance 6, early Simon and Kirby romance book, 1948

Well-loved copy, with some serious flaws, but for all of that, displays quite nicely. Book has a couple long production-type wrinkles FC, there's a 1/2" x 1" piece out of the spine center BC, and a tear through the book next to the bottom edge of the lower staple. That being said, the book is a solid reader with tight cover and CF, supple offwhite interior.

$20 takes it. SOLD!

Last book of the evening, and compared to the rest, it's practically a Modern!

Challengers of the Unknown 1, 1958

Jack Kirby DC Silver Age Coolness!

Book is flat and square but is just a reading copy. Entire spine is neatly taped along interior, and there's a small piece of tape on a tear interior upper BC at the small missing piece, see scan. That being said it's still plenty glossy and presents well, tight spine and CF, supple cream/offwhite interior, mostly suffering from general wear, and that damned tape. Sigh..

$200 in O'street for G, take it for $160

Going to add a few more books tonight, let's get started!

Crown Comics 11, VERY sharp, from the "Crestohl/Ross" collection. Comcs with certificate of authenticity, for whatever that's worth, lol

Very small chip out lower edge RH FC, NCB dogear lower RH FC, small tear on spine just above upper staple, and lt pencil upper FC. That all being said, this book displays beautifully, has solid spine and CF, offwhite-white supple interior.

Has 6 pages of Voodah.

$65 takes it

Jingle Jangle 18

Want to read some really PECULIAR comics? Grab some issues of Jingle Jangle and look for anything by George Carlson. As goofy as Basil Wolverton on his craziest day, and the rest of the artists and writers are durned near as weird has him.

This copy is flat and square, minor soiling, whiff of spine roll, or mebbe just a touch of roll from stacking. Couple light stains and a pencil mark BC, tight spine and CF, 1" split upper spine.

$25 takes it away!

Not a comic, but very cool. 1946 Gene Autry fanzine, with a glossy photo cover, and very clean, very clear mimeograph pages. This is typing paper size, and obviously an amateur labor of love.

Autry's Aces, 20 single side pages long hand stapled, and the last page is loose from the staples, contains a letter from Gene himself with comments on the fanzine, and info on the Gene Autry radio program, new at the time, plus info on some of his movies, and articles concerning movie making and Gene's early life.

Can't be many of these around any more.

$75 takes it.

Okay, last book for the evening.

Thrilling Comics 61, with Schomburg Princess Pantha cover.

Strictly a reader copy, back in the day some mook got frisky with a pencil on the FC, see scan. Other than that, your basic G to G+, with a couple transvers tears on spine, and a small corner off BC, see scans.

Haul home a reader for $35 SOLD!
