Guess the grade of a Batman 49

Here is a scan of a Batman 49 before CGC grading, guess the grade.

Small problems on top and bottom of spine. Fanning of pages at the bottom. A few spine lines. Great corners! 8.0-8.5.

Hard to tell without the scan of the back cover. I'd say a 7.5 with guessing what the back looks like. Possible PLOD - cleaned and pressed, possibly more.

Ok, I see the damage, but because of it's age, I'm gonna go 8.5. (Although I was tempted to go 9.0 - might regret it after we find out) And....assuming there is no restoration.

8.5 based on the front cover scan.

 

At that relative grade, fanned pages are not a problem (any grade really), the little bindery tear at the top of the spine not a problem, I see a few spine stresses and a bit of corner rounding at the bottom of the spine. The black area in the lower right corner would be prime for a "hit" though.

I'm going to take a risk, and pull in my 8.0-8.5 range to a solid 8.5.

 

8.0 graders: does it look any worse than this 9.0?

Assuming little to no wear on the back cover and no surface wear (that can't be seen in the scan). Simply because it's Golden-Age.
