News Article Asks: Why Are There So Few Black Supervillains?

mister glass from 'unbreakable'. :baiting:

An absolutely great, and rare, example of a black supervillan. Any more?

I'd throw in the ASM villian on rocket roller skates....Speed something-or-other.... or RocketRacer or something...but the only thing super about him was that he did not appear very often. :)

Slyde - the guy with the non-stick coating shoes and suit.

In addition to Slyde and Rocket Racer in the pantheon of Spider-Man bad guys we can easily forget, I also give you Cardiac.

Contrary to the cover blurb, he's the villain no one demanded. Ah, the 90's ...

Moses Magnum is pretty badass. The Black Racer from the New Gods was kind of a death god, so that is sort of like a villain. Chemistro is black (although he started out as a Luke Cage villain and they were almost all black). Black Tom was white. So was the Black Orchid.

black panther's nemesis the gorilla dude.

Man-Ape, and most of T'Challa's foes from Wakanda.

Of course, they are African villains.

I am South African. While in University in Canada I had a girl say to me, "You're from Africa? But you're white." No wonder recent grads are having trouble finding jobs :roflmao:

In other words, writing about black comic book villains is freighted with either ugly stereotypes about black men or self-conscious reactions against those stereotypes. So it's been tough for comic book writers to break free. But Cunningham says he'd like to see writers move beyond that and write more black supervillains. He concludes by explaining why, odd though it may sound, more black supervillains would actually be a great and long overdo step forward for popular cultural portrayals or black men.

So are they complaining that not enough super villains are black? They think comics, which are predominately sold to white males, should have more black villains in them?

I think you forgot to add badd asss to your super-villain search. That list combined would be lucky to beat Power Pack lol
