Marvel Varaints

Are all (2006-Present) era Marvel Comics with variant covers marke with the little 'Variant' emblem? Some are more obviously variants, like sketch covers.

 

Maybe someone can tell me when Marvel started putting these cover marks on?

They typically have the word Variant under/in the Marvel logo in the upper left corner.

Some are 2nd and 3rd print 'variants'.

 

Some are 50/50 'variants' and would be better described as 'alternate' covers.

 

Some are genuine variants with specific ratios to standard covers. The 1 in 10 variants have limited appeal, but when you're getting into the 1:25 and 1:50, there's certainly a market.

 

Then you have the show variants, a whole other can of worms.
