Bent Staple

How much does a bent staple effect the grade of the book. I have a book that is 8.0/8.5 but the upper staple is slightly bent towards the face of the book.

 

 

I couldn't find anything on the grading standards that I have available that mentions anything specifically about bent staples.

Is it a book that consistently has staple issues, like ASM 122?

No, it's a DD #10.

I'll be interested to hear what the Silver guys have to say. I wouldn't think that a slightly bent staple would bounce a book below 8.0 but Posting a pic would probably help, too.

I dont believe there is any change in grade on a production related staple bend.

I'm not sure if that one is production related though. The only real spine stress is right around that staple.

 

Looks like it was bent post production.
