What's in Japan? Got a job lined up or just want to go check the place out?

A job. A job that also pays for living expenses.

Is that through the JET program? I have a couple of friends that did that. If that's what you're doing, what are your choices for where you want to live?

Surely you will have better days than this one.

Seriously though. I have been to Japan and loved it. It's been a long time ago though.

I saw Tina Turner in a small night club, and I had a front row seat. I also met the CEO of Hitachi corporation. My buddy and I were being "attacked" by some locals in a small town that we were sight seeing in, and they didn't like Americans. So they were threatening us and kind of surrounded us. Then this guy comes out of the crowd and talks them down and, more or less, orders them to leave us alone. I was in the Marines at the time, but not in uniform. Just sight seeing.

Anyway, afterwards he escorted us to the train station and we had lunch together while waiting for the train. As we were leaving, he handed me his business card. That is how I found out who he was. He may have saved our lives. I can't say for sure as it was only threats and talk up to that point.

But I loved Tokyo. Very clean and if you are an average height man, just walking around on the downtown sidewalks makes you feel like you are ten feet tall. Everyone sees you, even from blocks away. As you are much higher than they are.

At least in 1973. :( I am sure it is different now.

Have fun and BUY STUFF. I regret not buying more stuff while there. They will have things you will not find here, ever.

You will be the first person to get my new one, however, you can still send those sweet German goods to my US one! (My dad will hang on to it for me. :) )

Oakman, thanks for the offer, but the bank got there before you did. ;)

And thanks, everyone!

Congratulations, Lauren. See the world while you're young and and beautiful and life is full of possibilities. Japan can be a bit intimidating for outsiders but you're from B-More, you'll do fine.
