I had the pleasure of meating BeachBum, Mr. Bedrock and Gemma. Thought is was a great show for Dallas and things are looking up for the future!

I am sure this quote is going to a thread in Comics General.

Should this show turn into an annual event, we (mysterio and I) were impressed with the La Quinta inn on N. MacArthur rd. Not only did they provide a free shuttle to the con, but it had a great continental breakfast and a great rate. Anyone interested next year should give them a try.

I had a blast all weekend at the Dallas Comicon. As others have stated, the LaQuinta Inn on Macarthur was convenient to the convention center, was very nice and I got a great rate for both nights. Sometimes it helps to be old (AARP rate). :D I found out while I was there that the PGA tournament next weekend will be right across the street.

I bought a bunch of books this weekend - about 140 in all. I found one dealer (who was right in front of the inside concession stand) who had a lot of high grade books at at least 50% off. I bought so many books from him on Saturday that he gave me 60% off. At the end of the day today, I went back and bought another 15 or so books including a Strange Tales #139 in high grade and some early Savage Tales and Savage Sword of Conan in high grade. I probably spent around $350 with this dealer alone for the weekend. He doesn't have a website and doesn't sell on eBay. He just does local Dallas area cons. I was smart enough to get his name and e-mail address for some future deals. :)

I ended up getting 19 books signed and witnessed for Signature Series slabs. Stan Lee signed my Cap #100, Fantastic Four #1 and Silver Surfer #2 yesterday. Then today it was a high grade Caliber Presents #1 (1st Crow) signed by J. O'Barr, 4 high grade X-Men signed by Rick Leonardi, 3 books signed by Bernie Wrightson, 2 Grimm Fairy Tales books signed by colorist Jeff Balke and last but not least 5 books signed by John Romita Junior. (worship)

MAJOR, MAJOR KUDOS go out to Gemma with CGC. I didn't know she was going to be at the con until I saw her on Saturday. She was a HUGE help in getting all of my books signed and witnessed. I really appreciated all of the help she gave me. That girl deserves a big, fat raise!!! And if I'm not mistaken, she looks like she's lost some weight. She was looking MAHVELOUS.

Big kudos also go out to Sharon and Chandler from Desert Wind Comics. Sharon was nice enough to keep all of my books seperated out in a box so I could bring books back as I got them signed by the various artists. Thank you very much! :applause:

I'll give you guys a short rundown of some of the books I picked up sometime tomorrow. A bunch of Marvel books (of course), a few DC books and a bunch of independents. Also a few early high grade Savage Tales and Savage Sword of Conan.

I did get to meet Jeff (Stronguy) at the booth he was helping out at. Nice guy and it was great chatting with you Jeff. (thumbs u

Overall, a great con....one of the best I've been to. I got everything done that I wanted to get done and bought a lot of nice books at great prices. My only complaint is that they were very inconsistent in how they ran the con between Saturday and Sunday. They let everyone inside the building just past 9:30 on Saturday but made us wait until 10:30 today. And I got there around 9:00 AM both days so I could park close. Yesterday, general admission people just walked into the entrance to the hall at random and today they made you form a line. If there's anything I hate it's inconsistency! :pullhair:

Great con report, Shark. I plan on writing one and have many pics as well (though I didn't get many pics on Friday and that was when most of the costumes, both good and bad, were out). I didn't buy any books, but I did pick up a sweet Wrightson zombie piece that has jumped to the list of top pieces in my (small) art collection. I also put in 5 books for signature series (Stan Lee on the 1st page of my TOS #1, Rick Leonardi on two ASMs in the 250s, and Romita Jr on one ASM and one Iron Man). Today will be a crazy day, but I hope to post soon (maybe tonight). Great show overall though.

I saw Richard (Bedrock), who had the best booth for comics at the show, and also met Bubbagump at his own table. I also got a wonderful assist from Gemma as a witness for my Leonardi signatures. The folks from Desertwind were also helpful and friendly even as they were being barraged by folks submitting books after Lee and Romita signings (the line was relentless). We had hoped to meet more boardies, but maybe next time. Shark was even at our hotel and we didn't manage to bump into him, which was a shame!

Mysterio, were you the guy who was standing at Bernie's table with us when I showed Liz my RBCC cover? I remember that guy picked up a pretty nice zombie original. I was the guy in the green Crater Lake cap with another guy who looked like Fu ManChu. :hi:

It is entirely possible. I was wearing a dark blue shirt and am fairly tall (6' 3") and I was probably giggling like a schoolgirl after picking up that Wrightson piece. I was so excited I don't really remember anyone else standing around, so if you were there I am sorry I missed saying hi.

I thought you might have been the guy standing there with us when I was showing Liz this piece on my iphone.

Later you came by Scott's (all the framed art) near the end of the show, and had a BW drawing you had purchased. If that wasn't you, I'm sorry we missed you anyway. You should have come to Richard's booth at the end of the show and gone to dinner with us.

Awesome piece! If you were there I didn't see you. That was probably me at Scott's booth with all the framed artwork. He sold me a sleeve and board to put the Wrightson piece in, so I was showing him what I got. I'm sorry I missed meeting you though I apparently came very close. We had talked to Richard about dinner on Saturday night, but we were exhausted from the drive in from Lubbock that morning (my alarm went off at 4:15 for the 5+ hour drive in) so we crashed pretty early. For Austin we are going to try to drive in Friday so we will be in decent shape for a dinner Saturday night for a change.

A fun show all around. Got there Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 for set-up. Load-in was a breeze and we got the racks set-up by 5:30 or so. Skipped out, had a bite to eat and drove an hour north of Dallas to Winstar Casino to play some cards. Won $350 ^^

Snuck davidmerryweather and his wife in Saturday morning during set-up so they could have a quick look around before going to Houston. Doors opened at 11:00 and it was on from the opening bell. We sold a bunch of books...Batman 10 6.5, two Avengers 4s, Hulk 181, Spidey 129, golden age Daredevil 5, Silver Surfer 1, Giant Size X-Men 1 and a ton of silver age Marvel for Stan to sign. Sunday was slower but I got a chance to look around and buy a few things. Got a nice stack of CGC books from my friends at All Star in Beaumont. Bought some cool 50s horror books (Mister Mystery 7 - Brain Bats of Venus!) from a long-time customer from the Dallas area. And picked up a killer 9.4 Meet Corliss Archer #1 from Weird Paper. Fun, Fun, Fun (thumbs u

Load out took a while, but we beat the storms. Got back to Houston around midnight.

Now we get to prepare for ComicPalooza this weekend.
