Alaska Bush Pilot CGC 9.4: Cool 1959 Promo Book! + Grenada CGC 9.4

Alaska Bush-Pilot #1 CGC 9.4 (1959)

Having read the actual story I can tell you that this is a very cool promo book.

There are only 5 copies that have been certified. Heritage has only sold one copy and that was the CGC 9.9 for $632.50 in 2005. The next highest is a CGC 9.8 and I own that copy for my personal collection. The remaining three are all CGC 9.4s.

This is what Heritage wrote:

Alaska Bush Pilot #1 (Jan Enterprises, 1959) CGC MT 9.9 Off-white to white pages. Here's a promotional comic for the collector who thought he had everything! We'd be remiss if we didn't recount this comic's backstory: the entire print run of 100 copies was found at a defunct printer's shop in Portland, Oregon, and 72 of them were water-damaged or otherwise unsalvageable. So here's one of the 28 surviving copies, and you certainly won't find one in a nicer grade! Not listed in Overstreet.

The book is now listed in the Guide but only notes that value will be based on individual sales and it solely references the CGC 9.9 sale.

When copies do show up for sale on ebay, and they do every so often (I monitor them), they are usually low grade raw copies (although there is currently one raw copy for sale on ebay (NM-) at the moment for $105.00).

Yes, the case is slightly cracked. It didn't take me too long. :frustrated:

$350 shipped domestically (+ $15 for international). This includes delivery confirmation and insurance.

and many others that started out as bush pilots and made it big. (or should I say bigger until they were bought out by the majors)

This was one of the last - and maybe the last book - created by famed political comic book publisher Malcolm Ater here in Washington, D.C. It was allegedly created for the CIA and distributed throughout Grenada to help fuel political unrest in favor of democracy.

I am actually preparing a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in pursuit of disclosure of documents pertaining to this comic book and others created by Ater for the U.S. Government. It should be interesting.

Anyway, I don't think we know how many copies of this book was published. Heritage has never auctioned one but it does show up on ebay, mostly in raw form. There is a CGC 9.8 copy on there right now for $150.00. I sold a NM raw copy back in about 2005 for $225.00.

I bought this copy from a comic book ad back in 1984-85.

Nice piece of interesting political history to own.

$80.00 shipped/insured domestically (+$15 internationally)

NOTE: The line down the right is from the scanner, not the book.
