Silver Age Hierarchy - pre poll list request

Wayne-Tec's hierarchy thread reminded me of the fact that we have had a number of list the top ten threads where each person lists their own top ten.

 

We haven't though had a poll for some time.

 

Poll would involve:

 

a.) Determining the long list (the more the better) - this thread.

b.) Creating the 30 comic short list - 1st poll (30 votes each)

c.) Determining the positions of each comic in the final 30 - 3 day poll per position by which we vote off the lowest 3 comics

 

Aim of the vote will be to determine the top 30 books of the SA in terms of importance (not value which of course is one indicator).

 

As with all these types of threads there will be books that have an obvious position (AF#15) but it will be interesting to see where the rest of the order ends up.

We're talking importance, rather than *just* value? There are some odd ones on the list already...like Spidey #2-4, 6.

 

I would add HOM #174, HOS #81, Showcase #27, 30, 37, 43, 60, HOM #143 (?), My Greatest Adventure #80, Eighty Page Giant #1, Superman Annual #1, Strange Tales Annual #2, Suspense #58, Astonish #59, B&B #51, 54 (fo sho!) X-Men #12, Double Life of Private Strong #1 (really), SSWS #90, Strange Advnetures #205 (maybe even #180), Iron Man #1, SS #1, IM&S #1, Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom #1.

In my mind when you throw out value you end up with books like Flash 123, which is the basis for 40 something years of DC storylines. Or a book like Showcase 17 which opened up the science fiction storylines. How about a book like Brave and the Bold 54, which seems to be underrated considering the long runs of the Teen Titans over the years.

Over 100 books to date.

 

Think we'll give it to the end of tomorrow before closing the long list to allow the football fans a chance to respond.

 

Will be interesting to see how much the list ends up resembling the OS top 20 rather than historic significance.

 

Funny enough there are a lot more DCs on the list in proportion to Marvels than I expected.

Advenures of the Fly # 1 should probably be there also. FF 66/67 and Thor 166 have Warlock's embryonic storylines. FF 45 should also be there with the Inhumans.TTA 90 has first Abomination who was popular enough to make it to the big screen as was the Leader from TTA 62. Whiplash from TOS 97 also. Cap 117, though arguably BA, might fit. TOS 50 is the first Mandarin....also on the screen soon. GOD BLESS...

Rifleman 10 should be included. Very influential in starting the "wood" genre of photo covers.
