Interior Page Corner Tears

5 posts in this topic

I have seen comics in which several of the right lower corner interior pages are torn and missing (1/8th inch tear), but the outer cover is unaffected. Is this a printing defect?

Most likely not. The newsprint used in SA Marvels for example, was very low quality paper, subject to tearing any number of ways. A production defect is generally recognized as something that occurs somewhat frequently in a particular issue or series of issues from the same production dates.

Missing corners are common happenstances with newsprint. Pictures, of course, would go a long way here.

How is grading affected?

CGC uses the following formula:

x(beta)/y(alpha)(#~)(%z)=SPD

where, x=the total number of pages in the book, y=the number of affected pages, #~= the newsprint strength coefficient, %z=the ratio of affected area to total page area, and SPD= the standardized point deduction

alpha and beta are the standard deviations for those values . . . :insane:
