Reader's Guide to Acronyms

25 posts in this topic

So I'm reading the latest hot thread, constantly asking, "BSD, BSD... What the hell does BSD mean?" Someone finally posted the answer.

I thought it would be useful for those that haven't logged several hundred (or thousand...) posts to know what the acronyms mean that might be encountered on these boards. I'll start, and I'm sure others can chime in and add to the list.

BA = Bronze Age

SA = Silver Age

GA = Golden Age

PLOD = Purple Label of Doom (or Death) -- purple CGC label for "restored" book

BSD = Big Swinging Richard -- the big name dealers/collectors

BD = Big Richard (just a jerk)

BLU (Blue Label of Uncertainty). Used to denote an obviously pressed and cleaned (or otherwise restored) book that somehow has made it into a Blue Universal label.

CGG (Charlatan Grading Group)

FOAD (F Off And Die). An acronym invented by Ian Levine round about the same time that he created the internet and invented comic book collecting as a higher art form. (Kidding, Ian!)

Ah yes, and lest we forget the wonderful state of New Jersey:

GTFOH - Get the F* outta here

Which can be either emphatic or questioning, depending on whether you use an exclamation mark or a question mark. To wit:

"Scooby, let's GTFOH!"

or

"Ebay ad: AF 15 CGC 9.9 MINT Single Owner" "GTFOH, really?"

So I guess you figured out what MSOG meant? Since your first reply still had a question mark... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

"Birdwatching" is one of the more creative terms used in that hobby, and the birds you would typically brag about watching are the ones that make their return to Capistrano every year... thumbsup2.gif
