Polybagged

9 posts in this topic

What's the story with polybagged comics? Should they be kept in those cheap seals or taken out? If out, what happens to the value? If in, how do you keep it preserved, and who's going to buy what they can't inspect?

Straight from the Overstreet Price Guide:

Sealed comics in bags are not always in MINT condition and could even be damaged. The value should not suffer as long as the bag (opened) and all of it's original manufactured contents are preserved and kept together.

So, as long as you keep the book, the bag, and all of it's contents, value shouldn't be affected if it's opened. But, that's only according to Overstreets guidelines.

Not only that, but the plastic bags used in polybagged comics were never intended for long-term storage. They'll eat your comics alive if you leave them in the original polybags, so there is really no way to preserve them intact without damning your comics to a sad fate.

Nope......the polybag gives off gasses that are harmful to your comic and can damage it over time. Sealing the book in an archival storage medium with the Polybag just means that those harmful gasses are trapped and have nowhere to go except straight into your comic where they can have lunch. frown.gif

Arnold will do a much better job of explaining it than I did though. smile.gif

Nah, you did a fine job. Bottom line - if you want to make sure your comic doesn't age any faster than it should, you simply *have* to remove it from that polybag. Those bags are very harmful in the long term, there's no way around it. The whole idea of sealing comics in such volatile plastic had to be one of the biggest jokes in the industry.
