My humble Spider-man collection

186 posts in this topic

What can I say? This is just an absolute dream, when I think of inkers of John Romita Sr. naturally I think of Jim Mooney and Mike Esposito, both of which are sadly no longer with us...after that it falls to Joe Sinnott, Tom Palmer and of course the great Salvatore Buscema, who started at marvel inking over his brother on Silver Surfur 4.

This piece was a dream come true, the pencils of John were tonal and I had a great inner struggle on whether to ink or not. I felt that maybe a little of its personality might be taken away but the prospect of getting a piece by such a formidable Silver Age tandem was just too good to pass up. You be the judge.

Originally this was supposed to be a re-imagining of the ASM 600 cover with heads of the Sinister Six taken the place of spider-man's friends and acquaintances, there was a bit of a communication blip with Sal but the end results are just as spectacular going from a re-imagining to a bona fide cover recreation of one of my favorite modern Romita Sr covers!

My only regret is that this was not on an amazing spider-man blank cover.

Enjoy and comment!

I love your collection! Please check out my slowly building Spidey collection in my signature.

My only question is how are you able to get some of these? Especially John Romita Sr, Sal Buscema & Mark Bagley?

I'd like to say what my favorite piece is but you have so many I think that are wonderful.

Nice Bachalo, still like mine better though :)

The McGuinness sketch covers really don't look right not inked. Look forward to seeing how it turns out inked by Dexter Vines.

Man I love these threads that show off sketch covers. Congrats on the Tony Moore sketch cover. I recently spoke with him on facebook and he said he wasn't doing sketch covers anymore. :( My favorite of the bunch listed on this thread is the Joe Quesada cover. I've been a huge fan of his artwork forever. Thanks for sharing these.

things keep rolling like tunder! HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE grail!

I know that the more I say it the more it looses its meaning but five years ago when I started this journey I had no idea how fast this would all grow and come together...there are too many people to thank for all the help they provided me over the years but they know who they are!

so considering I collect spider-man this is pretty huge..I won't use the word grail because I notice I use that word way too often! but considering the pieces I have from his dad I'm surprised its taken so long to get one from the son! JR JR this was done by Jake aka Menace at the charity event in vegas as you can see by the numbering, its amazing that even when a guy is breaking a world record that he has the time to do a full figure like this....extraordinary to say the least
