Round 5 is alive. The Boardies will vote, narrowing things down a bit in these preliminary rounds. Eventually we will have a favorite SA/BA Neal Adams vintage cover champion! :acclaim:

This round showcases the last 35 Adams covers from 1969 in chronological order, completing the Silver Age.

These covers are starting to kick some *spoon* making choices very difficult, so the vote count has been expanded to 7.

Pick what you love, not what you think is popular.

Don't be shy with your comments. Let's hear why you made your choices. Influencing others with commentary is encouraged. :gossip:

The polls are still open in these previous preliminary rounds. Please visit them and vote if you have not:

Round 4 (1969 1st Half)

Round 3 (1968 Concluded)

Round 2 (1968 Continued)

Certainly much, much tougher now. Adams' designs are getting more inventive, and I also think the figure work and facial expressions generally have more life and energy by this stage - I found a lot of the 67 to 68 covers quite cold and sterile, particularly those of the mainstream super-hero titles.

+1. Like most of the other mainstream DC stuff being put out then. Neal was probably just happy to be there, and was emulating the work of others around him at first. Things sure did turn a corner in late '69 though, as his own style continued to evolve and separate him from his peers.

No love for underrated suspense masterpiece DC Special #4. :sorry:

Even in a pack of Cheerleaders, there are the extra special ones and the "special" ones.....

I'm really surprised more folks haven't voted for The Unexpected 113 cover. I think Adams' inventive use of the tunnel as the cranium portion of a skull, along with the Swan boat feathers and the subtle reflection thereof on the water as the mandible portion of the skull didn't garner more votes. (shrug)

This is the tightest round yet with only 3 books really distinguishing themselves as the others are splitting the votes pretty evenly. At least one of those big 3 is a total surprise to me even though I picked it also, and I'm glad to see it happen! This means that some great covers from 1969 are not going to move ahead to the semi-finals.

Get your votes in and push your favorites forward away from the pack of books floundering between 4-7 votes. That probably wont be enough to get it done for some heavy hitters. :o
