Oh to be so lucky to have one of Robojo's books or the Curator copy, whichever this beauty is. I'll go with a grade of "brand spanking new"

This book has lots of positives going for it as a lower grade reader, but it does have the one fatal flaw of old tape and the damage it leaves behind. You either have a tear taped up on the back side as well, unless it's a glued tear seal? Solid complete looking copy without any significant pieces missing. Significant tears, tape and a bit of general overall wear to the spine. It doesn't have any water staining or spots to speak of, so it's a very clean lower grade.

I had a Hulk 1 with a completely taped up spine that I sold as a 1.0 Fair and it was then slabbed as a 1.5 by the purchaser. I also had an AF 15 that I had slabbed as a 1.8 that presented very nicely but had 6 pieces of tape on the inside of the cover and book and right side marvel chipping. I think this book is generally nicer than the hulk and also presents nicer than the AF 15, so it's probably 2.0 by CGC grading. I just don't see giving it a higher grade with that large tape stain and discoloration. With my old school grading, I would have called it a Fa/Gd and would have been comfortable buying it as such. I might have gone as high as a G- back in the day. In many ways, the book presents like a 3.0 with a major defect.

Do you grade modern drek?

I can try in a bit...gotta run to a scout event :gossip:

So I can't see anything that would keep it from 9.6+ unless there are fingerprints on it that I can't see. The corners all look very sharp and I don't see any spine ticks. It's probably a 9.8 :headbang:

:wishluck: I will be submitting this book soon so I hope you are right. Thanks for looking at it for me :D

That's pretty much where I'm at...pages are attached at centerfold but a little loose...fairly nice presenting book for a 2.0...

Best thing about this book is how I came to own it...found the book for sale in a Fanzine ad...sent 50-cents (taped 2 quarters to a 3x5 index card) for it in 1971...trust...a beautiful thing...and it arrived in the mail and has been in my possession ever since... :insane:

that's amazing! too bad i was not yet born...

I was going to ask you about a couple too. This'll work too.

This ASM 19 has the slightest wrinkles in a couple of places, nothing which is near to breaking color. It's just not dead flat, and it has 2-3 small spine stresses you can't see on a white book. I call this a 9.2/9.4 book. On the rear near the corner is a little dirtiness(looks like a corner crease), from being against something else there.

I almost jumped at Steve's copy today, since a 9.4 is what I'm after for #19.. You can hardly tell that this isn't his copy.

Sweet book (thumbs u..... where do you manage to pick up raw copies like these?

I'll be honest, I'm sort of intimidated to post this. For a few reasons. First, I confess to posting this in it's own thread already - but I read this whole thread and thought it was so cool I had to join in. Second, I'm still new at this and realize I'm small fish compared to you guys' books. Sheesh! The sweet books you guys have!!!

But anyway this book is a bit of a holy grail for me (being a big Question fan). So here it goes, this might be the first book I submit. Haven't decided yet.

That's a great book and definately a tough one to grade, you guys are making this fun for me. If you get them slabbed, let me know how far off I am

I'm thinking that the miswrap is just that. I'm thinking the front shows up as a 7.0 or maybe a bit better. The single staple appears to be a bit worn and possibly loose, bottom of the spine is frayed and top has a small tear and there are a few ticks. The back shows up as a 3.5 with the water spots even though they are light in color, they do pucker. My best assessment is that the water stain will hit you harder than the beauty of the front can bring you back to the higher grades, so I'm betting on a 5.0 and I want to lean even a bit higher to a 5.5 chance. I don't think it will grade a fine or better but who really cares as it looks phenomenal.

Here's a tough one - the front cover looks pretty sweet, aside from the miswrap and production color loss in the logo, but the back has a few water spots, the largest next to "made with", and the one at the top left actually goes into about 12 pages IIRC.

And while it looks dark in the scan- there is no rust on the staple.

In addition the single staple was pulled out and reinforced with tape on the inside ( I have another GA book this was done to that was graded Universal).

As I remember the pages are OW/W.
