Why the need for "Anonymous" in the "whos online" list

The Anonymous feature of this board has always has always made me wonder why it is there, and why so many of the board members use it?

 

Do you really care who see's what post you are reading?

Who see's you online? Or what post you are replying to.

 

In the end we all see the posts/threads once they are posted.

 

I just found this curious, when I clicked on who was online tonight and only 5 members were listed as online, but 25 were listed as "Anonymous" gossip.gif

 

Why so secretive?

Whats the big deal?

 

We all know we all read the boards 24/7.....lol

 

cmon, come back to being a friendly visible online forumite, youll feel better once you do.

Heck, I didn't even know about this feature or about how we can be registered as anonymous or not. But then again, I don't really care either. All that matters to me is what is said in the posts. ------Sid

From my understanding, the people listed as anonymous are not registered users. You aren't looking at the people who post here when you see the anonymous users. They could be checking out the site for the first time, not the kind who like to post, or just folks familiarizing themselves with the forum before they sign up. What you're talking about is 'hiding'. One can hide their presence, or one can be seen but hide the thread/post they're looking at. I'm hidden because I don't feel it's anyone's business but my own whether I'm looking at the forum, or what I'm reading.

Well first I had to rack my brain and try to remember who this "House" person was....but then it all came back...

 

I don't really buy it, there's a part in his new story where he claims he 'infected his wife'....The House I know and love always used to get infected BY women.... confused-smiley-013.gif

People who show up as anonymous aren't registered! tongue.gif You are on invisible mode just like me! That's a totally different issue! Count the number of users showing on the who's online screen and compare it with the number showing as being online. The difference is the number who are on invisible!

Then he does not show up on the "whos online screen" at all?

me personally I could give less then 2 hoots, about what anyone is reading, thats why I originally found it odd that the "Anonymous" feature was even available.Or why anyone would choose to use it.

 

But this question was answered nicely in the posts above already..

But I would say the whos online does indeed have a purpose,

perhaps you might want to see what friends you have that are online when you logg in so you can send a PM, or want to make a reply to a post you know they will see, I dunno... its part of the board and I am sure it gets used in one form or another.
