Daredevil 75 cent cover? Am I Canadian and don't know it?

9 posts in this topic

A buddy of mine has me going through his comics to see if anything's any good and he has a few early 80's Daredevils. As I'm going through them, I noticed that the prices fluctuated between 60 cents and 75 cents. The 60-centers have the multiple prices for Canada and the UK as you typically see but the 75-centers just have the 75 cent price. There's a pic below for your perusal. Anyone know the scoop with this? He's from Northern California and he didn't vacation in Canada in case you're wondering that. Also, does newsstand vs. direct edition matter at all? Thanks.

I also would have a buyer for the following newsstand issues:

185 193 195 200 201 202 204 205 207 209 210 212 213

215 216 219 220 228 232 233 235 237 243 269 271 286

289 297 298 299 300 301 303 304 309 313 314 315 316

318 320 321($1.25) 325 326 327 328 330 331 332 333 334

335 337 338 342 343 344 345 347 348 349 350 351 352

353 354 355 356 357 358 359 360 361 362 363 364 365

366 367 368 369 370 371 372 374 375 376 377 378 379

380 Annual 1997

They wouldn't go for crazy money, but the guy would buy them.

The direct sales version of the DD 181 is more common than the newsstand copy? Not arguing...just curious as to what you're basing your info on. Or is that an educated guess?

It's more than a "guess," but it is educated smile.gif It's based on twenty plus years of seeing the book around coupled with seeing a billion copies on eBay over the past couple of years. Test it yourself using the easy availability of examples on eBay.

The result? 18 auctions on eBay right now. 17 of them are the direct version.

I just wanted to reinforce Rob's conclusions on the Direct vs. Newstand availability. During the late seventies comic shops started to flourish down here in Miami and collectors soon realized that you could get your comics sooner and cheaper at your LCS. I know that a bunch of the comic book collecting community stopped going to 7-Eleven or local newstands around this time. Newstand copies that went unsold were returned but all Direct Sale versions were either sold initially or went to the back issue bins, giving the Direct Sale versions a "second life" that most Newstand versions didn't get.
