Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I still can't believe that #1 was $1. I totally forgot that fact and am still baffled as to why I didn't buy more than 2 when they hit shelves as I read the first book by that time, and said to myself this book/comic has movie or tv show written all over it.

Not sure if this is new or not, but it seems Amazing Spider Man 606 (Black Cat cover), and 607 keeps going up in price. Completed sales on ebay over $25 already. Anybody notice any other Marvel moderns like this rise in value?

those have been getting those prices for quite awhile now, but one i never see mentioned much is asm 601. that book is starting to sell over 30 pretty regularly now too, but it never gets as much attention as all the black cat covers for some reason.

it is reaching iconic cover status imo, and only getting more popular, you see tons of cosplayers recreating that cover now.

Yes, 606 & -07 have been hot for a while. I have been grabbing any 50-52 / 490-92 & 601 I can find as well. They are all J. Scott Campbell covers which is part of the appeal.

611 w/Deadpool and 640 Women of Marvel Variant are good ones too.

New Mutants Annual #2 CGC 9.8 SSx3 Stan Lee, Claremont & Davis! 1st Psylocke!

$405 w 13 bids

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261417249878?lpid=82&item=261417249878&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466

This book has been hot. I consider captain Britain #8 to be her first appearance though.

Copper books. NM Annual #2 is the 1st US printed appearance and Britain #8 is hard to find and usually out of the price range of modest collectors.

So Britain 8 is the first appearance?

I snag them whenever one of the LCSs puts them in the bins. It is nice that they usually price #606 and #607 higher than #601 as well.

CB #10 is her first cover appearance and can be had really cheap. A little aside if you liked the 1st Uncanny X-Force series, Jamie Braddock 1st appeared in CB #9

Your best bet is to be picking up ASM 15-29 as well...

Your comment read as an insult though it may not have been your intention. I look at a like this. A single $5 profit is no big deal but do it a 100 times a month, you have $500. Do that 12 times a year, $6000. Do that another 4 years and you have enough to pay cash for a nice car. 2c

I give anyone credit if they are making $6000 a year off moderns, heck yeah that would be nice. I just see an eerily similarity between this new breed of speculation compared to the dark days of the 90's. Of course the print runs are way different, but the buy every book in multiples regardless of content is in place.

Lots of people do much more than $6000 a year from moderns.

This is from my summary page on Ebay.

tumblr_n23o2dd4PP1rkky2io1_1280.jpg

Note: These are gross sales. Profit margin can range from 20% to 300% and higher.

I sell mostly moderns with the occasional Bronze or Silver age thrown in from time to time when I upgrade personal stuff.

Most of the books I sell are graded or in demand raws that I speculate on.

Have there been some books that did't sell and are sitting? Sure, looks back at Jupiter's Legacy and a bunch of post Peter Panzerfaust #9. But the profits I have made well out pace the long/and short boxes I have that aren't moving currently.

Look at it this way. Buy a modern for anywhere between 40% of cover to cover.. get it graded(23-30 depending one your level) and sell for $85-$150 and you have paid for a stack of 30 books in one fell swoop.

how do you get to that on ebay?

Why is that?

Super low print runs. I've posted the numbers a few times. Can't find them now. Check out ComiChron. Pretty crazy.

#17 54k, yes, low for ASM, but still more than a book like Preacher #1. It was still 14th on the list that month too. Maybe in 10 years there will be a demand by completionists. I would rather spend the money on 30-35, more Campbell covers.

Keep looking. The numbers get smaller. But yes, in 10 years those books will be sought after.

X-Men #256 is the 1st appearance of Psylocke as the Asian we all come to know and love.

Well, obviously the demand has to be there.

It will be. It some cases, it already is. ASM 29 sells for between $10-$20.
