Well, it's interesting, the comic came out July 2012, and the French tv series Les Revenants came out November 2012. Those are so close together that it is likely a case of simultaneous invention, as both would have been in conception/production for some time before that, so it would seem unlikely that they ripped each other off. The American remake The Returned came in 2015. The original French series was based on a 2004 movie, so maybe it all starts there? Or again, maybe just two different camps having a similar idea.
