Valiant Relaunch

301 posts in this topic

Valiant is assuming that the LCS are honest enough to actually put the Variant into the various pull boxes.

Well, back in the day Valiant shorted everyone on Rai 0.

My LCS got 40% fewer than they ordered. They couldn't even fill the Rai subscription pull boxes, so the issue never even made it out on the shelf. Crazy to think about, given that it's dollar bin fodder today.

At least with Unity 0 and 1 comic shops knew how many they'd get beforehand. Ditto Magnus v. Predator Platinum.

I was going to say the same thing. This book is showing renewed interest by collectors. And it appears Harbinger 1 is making its way back up on the sales charts, where last year a few 9.8's sold in the $300 range.

And the crazy thing is there are now 90 copies of Harbinger 1 in 9.8, and 172 in 9.6 by today's census count.

Ok--shocked to see the 9.8 go for $100, but raw copies are selling for $4-$5 on eBay, cover price for new books.

That 9.8 (or better) label seems to do things to wallets that a raw book in high grade doesn't most times. Just think how many books we see sell on here in raw form that come back encased and go for much higher amounts.

Plus I bet the relaunch is bringing out excitement that hasn't been there for a little while on this book. I won a Rai 0 CGC 9.8 for $11 + $6 shipping a few years back, just because it was so cheap and I wouldn't have to send in my copy.

I'm nowhere near the hoarder that most of the guys on the Valiant boards are, but even I have 8 NM/M copies of Rai 0. It was dollar bin fodder for years and I never passed it up.

As cool as it is, I've always liked Unity 0 more--that's what got me into Valiant in the first place, and the story was so well done,

Oh hey that was my listing :) I'm glad I had two of them (plus a hoard of raw copies!)

I've seen an increased amount of interest in Valiant back issues & original art.

I've sold more off my site in the last 2 months than I did all last year...

81 in 9.8, 159 in 9.6.

(Including SS still wouldn't get us to 90 and 172.)

Did you include "Qualified" grades? Probably not a good idea. No one's paying 9.8 prices for a 9.8 qualified (coupon cut out).

Also of interest are the 139 slabbed universal copies at 9.2 and lower... that's a lot of slabbed "low grade" modern books.

That's usually an indication that all the raw copies "out there" aren't as NM as people think they are.

Harbinger 1 will probably always be the top valued Valiant regular issue (no variant, no chromium, no gold, just a regular comic.).

(Solar #10 first print could be a competitor, though.)

Well excuse me for counting 9.8's as 9.8's. doh!

:baiting:

:gossip: 91 now - another board member landed a 9.8 this past week.
