DC gets a new logo

109 posts in this topic

The interesting thing that NO ONE commented on, is, it looks like DC

is also going back to the old numbering at the same time they start the

new logo. Looks like the renumbering lasted about 8 months (one story

arc +). Also long enough to kill off the lowest selling titles.

Actually, it will have one other positive effect. In six months or more,

when you go through those 50 cent boxes you will see this logo and

respond "new logo - ignore this issue and flip to the next." It will help in

finding the older issues you need to complete your collection up to

the point in time where you said "I am going to stop getting any DC

published after xx/20xx."

Apparently that mock-up numbering is not meaningful:

When DC Comics showed you how they would be using their new logo on the front of comic books, they put out a few examples.

Including a Batman 708 dated May 2012.

Cue minor internet explosion with people asking whether DC would be going back to the original pre-relaunch numbers? So soon after their big relaunch? Unlikely… but then so was having a new logo a week ago.

So I checked with a DC source.

And no. As I presumed, it’s just a mock up for presentation. No number changes on publication. You may return to your usual state of panic.

I kind of figured it was mockup, but it does beg the question, "why use the high numbers?" It subliminally undermines the relaunch, at the very least.

It just doesn't scan as "DC". You can clearly read the Marvel logo from a distance. Aesthetics aside, I call fail as it doesn't fulfil the primary objective of a logo, which is brand identity and awareness.

This may well be what Goldie said, but I didn't understand a damn word. :ohnoez:

I (jokingly) claimed that they were trying to be subtle, non-corporate and getting away from logos as branding. :shy:

I just cannot believe this is to be the new corporate logo. If so, I'm speechless.

It's official:

it just looks like a "C" in a blanket!

Or a broken condom being taken out of the wrapper.

So which one was the best?

I wouldn't mind seeing that come back as a retro logo.

I got a couple of comic related T-Shirts for Christmas, and I find it very interesting that the clothing manufacturer/licensee in this case did not use any logo that was produced after the "bullet".
