Nikola Tesla as a comic book character in Superman

I know that Tesla was an old Superman comic from the 1940's. Does any one have any idea which Superman issue that he first appeared in? I know that his character has been in a few more recent comics.

I vaguely recall some Superman dailies which featured a mad scientist and a "death ray." I don't think the villain was referred to by name, but I'm certain the "death ray" was based on Tesla's work on particle accelerators and particle beam weaponry.
