DC 100 Pagers revisited

Greggy, it appears to me that you are trying to achieve the best and highest graded DC 100-page collection in the world. Good luck if that is the case. Just wondering IF that is your goal, what you are intending to do with it once (if ever) you are satisfied with what you have and stop accumulating more. I just find it interesting to see what motivates people and to learn about what goals they have and etc. Anything you are still looking for that is hard to aquire? -----Sid
My unofficial goal right now is to get the run in CGC 9.4 or better. I have no idea what other less visible collectors have or own so I can't say that I have the best at this time. I know of at least one other collector with more $$ than I who also wants to do the same. However, unlike me, he does not have it as his number 1 priority. I don't expect that I will continually upgrade all the way to 9.6/9.8 but will go for those issues if the timing and/or finances align! 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Looks like you got some major competition on that 9.8 at All-Star with Dizneyart.
Already given up on that. Doesn't matter...just got a nice 9.4 WP copy!

The highest graded Love Stories #5 to date is a CGC 9.2. One would assume that since this book is valued at $700 in 9.2, most of the high grade copies in existance have already been submitted. Overstreet list this issue as "scarcer", whatever that means. They have not responded to my inquiries whether "scarcer" is more rare than "scarce".

 

The higher numbered romance 100 pagers, Young Love #111 through #114 are scarce, as well as Young Romance #200-#204.

 

Of the 115 DC 100 pagers in the run, Young Romance #203 has had no submissions to CGC, while House of Mystery 226, Our Army at War #275, Shazam #13, and Young Romance #201 have had only one submission each.

 

The highest prices paid that I am aware of is $1,000 for the Love Stories #5 in CGC 9.2, and $712 for Superman #252 CGC 9.6.

 

Amazingly, Greggy, who is known for collecting the very best DC 100 pagers, did not acquire either of these two books.

Didn't Greggy win the Monterey Copy of Supes 252 for 500 or 600? Wasn't that also 9.6, or was that a 9.4?

 

I picked up around 12 Monterey 25-30 cent World's Finests. They are as near to perfect as any books I've ever seen. If the Supes 252 was only 9.4 it must have been just a minor spine issue.

I just received the Superman #252 CGC 9.4 WP that I paid $360 for today.

 

Spine uneven, bottom staple has poked through the cover. Bottom and top of spine showing wear.....definitely not a CGC 9.4 in my opinion.

 

Oh, but I'm sure CGC is always fair and it is absolutely impossible for them to give better grades to certain people.

 

The staple popped through the cover after grading due to rough handling or shipping. Yeah, that's it.
