Anyone know what happened with Ebass tonight? I saw like 15 security guards confront him as he was leaving, they took his badge and escorted him out of the building? Wtf?

Was it this morning or tonight after the show ended?

This was after the show closed. I was walking out and it all happened right in front of me, we held back as to not get involved in whatever was going on. I mean there was a SEA of security... it was deff not a good thing. I saw them take his badge away and then the group of 15 or more security took him out, not physically but they walked him out.

Anymore info?

I know what was going on yesterday, but out of respect for the situation I will wait & hold off talking about it.

+1

I thought the con this year had a much different flavor than last year, especially when it came to the artists row. Last year, many - not all artists - were sitting around and the crowds were thin in front of their booths, even if the aisles were jammed. In fact more than several had left by Sunday of last year. This year, several artists were booked for sketches for the entire show by the end of preview night. Much less anime this year .. and more main stream/classic styles IMO. I was elated to see nearly every artist was working on a sketch or discussing art with someone. If this year is any indication of things to come, I think it will only get better .. possibly exponentially.

I thought the number of comic book shops represented was okay, and could have been better. If you wanted books you could find most of them in BA and Moderns .. lots of Silver and a little GA but pickings were few.

I heard a story that Shatner was impressed with how the show was run, and that those attending should be very appreciative of the representatives that helped with crowd control and giving help in general.

It was a great time to be had.

Phoenix CC was a Blast this year. The best in the last 4 years. It was really nice being the first or 2nd on Artists lists for sketches Thursday :)

The Dave Beaty: Hulk-Spiderman made his facebook page.... Woot.

Another Phoenix Comic Con has come and gone. This year's show had a different feel than last year's in a few ways. We ended up fairly far away from the action this year which had some impact on sales; however, when buyers found us, they spent the money. We also had much larger isle space so the buyers were not fighting the "walkers" to get to the boxes. Matt and his volunteer crew did a nice job of spacing so that the large crowds moved much more freely than last year.

I haven't consolidated the boxes from the show yet as we did not get finished loading the boxes back into the storage units until 8:30; then had some Mexican cousine with Mark (tortoise) and his hard working and lovely GF, Ashley (they were lifesavers for the load out Sunday evening).

It looks like we sold somewhere around 10-11 long boxes of dollar books alone (lots of Bronze bargains were a big hit). Also sold quite a few small sets and runs, approximately 60 of the 70 Walking Dead I had, and a few big books including Planet 48-9.4 and Rangers and Zip #1s. Overall, we did very well although not quite as well as last year.

I spoke with several vendors on Sunday who all said they had very good to great shows and are excited to return. I would guess the attendance will be over 25,000 this year. Saturday was by far the busiest; however, all days including the Thursday Preview had more people than last year so sales were spread out over all days this year. It looks like Phoenix Comic Con is just going to keep getting bigger every year. Hope to see more of you next year.

I have a few to pick up in San Diego, but here are mine in-hand. At Stuart Sayger's request, I'll post his paper sketch after he seams scans I'll send him since it's over-sized.

Bob Layton (Iron Man ... I mean it's my first Layton sketch, so it had to be IM)

The final numbers are out and it was quite the increase in attendees vs last year. 2011's attendance was 23,001. 2012's attendance was 32,127. Those numbers are for "unique" visitors. An increase of over 39% year over year. Pretty impressive!

Can't wait to see how it grows next year.
