Howdy,

I finally got around to sorting a few hundred Marvel Star Wars comics, enough to make nearly 4 sets of issue 1-107. In the process I discovered numerous HIGHER cover priced variant covers for issues 67 to 106... These were all the "non comic shop" covers with UPC instead of the Spider-Man.

I finally realized these higher priced issues were referring only to Canadian dollars (the no UPC code comic shop issues include Canadian AND USD prices whereas only a single price is found on retail/UPC covers).

The Canadian price variations were all 75 cents except issue 92 was $1.25 (larger) and 102, 104, and 106 were 95 Canadian cents.

(nowhere inside the comic is Canada mentioned, so I assume the only difference is the cover price box on the top left of cover)

Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone actually cares for or desires the Candian cover versions of these comics. Is it considered "ethical" to include them in full runs or sets without pointing them out? Do they carry a positive or negative price differential?

Thanks for any info on this topic. Had no idea Marvel printed different covers for Canada for those latter issues.

Thanks,

Rory

I think you picked another good time. There are no other 35 cent variants to be found, and the Spider-Man books always do well.

It is a shame those two guys that fought over your X-men 105 do not like spidey!

Best of luck. takeit.gif

Speaking of 30 cent variants, I am fond of this cover:

Yeah yeah, I know, a mere 30 cent variant, more than 7 known copies exist, hardly collectible......

But it has almost everything you look for in a Bronze spidey cover: action, explosions, goofy captions.. all that's missing is some witty banter, which I'm sure there's plenty of in the comic.

Anyway, this variant and some others are up and some more this weekend....

35 cent variants discovered!

This week, Scoop brings you a look at two rare Marvel 35-cent price variants that serious Bronze Age collectors have questioned the existence of. The background on the 35 cent price variants is that one exists for each Marvel Comic published for five months prior to the to the actual cover price increase. The purpose of these issues was to test the consumers resistance to the pending price change. Overstreet advisor and Warehouse Auction Centers Vice President Fred McSurley has discovered the missing two 35 cent variants. The list of 35 cent variants totals 184 issues and these two now complete the list.

Unlike their 30 cent price variant counterparts the 35 cent variants are difficult to observe as they do not stand out with major cover variations. Numerous collectors have contributed to organizing a complete list of 30 and 35 cent variants. Collector Paul Merolle's website features a complete list of these issues.
