This is a good example of when Overstreet is not your friend if you are a seller...

Someone got a really really really good buy on this one - and a volume discount with the other two Weird Wonder Tales Variants to go with it.

Wow. What an amazing bargain.

Is Weird Wonder Tales #15 still considered one of the rarest 30 centers? This copy and the consignment 1.5 from MCS both sold in February, but there are thought to be less than 20 copies remaining, right?

I absolutely love your blog, by the way. Thank you very much for it's existence.

Weird Wonder Tales #15 is definitely one of the rarest 30 centers. I put it and Kid Colt 208 as the two toughest.

How's this for a great deal? Our local Vintage Stock stores were having a BOGO free sale over the weekend. I'd already dug through the dollar boxes at my usual Vintage Stock store thoroughly so I paid a visit to the one in Edmond. Found this puppy in one of their dollar boxes:

Amethyst%202%20FN-%2035%20cent%20price%20variant%20Newsstand_zps0e9wiy1a.jpg

And since it was a BOGO weekend, I paid a whopping 50 cents for it.

There are FIVE different versions of Amethyst #1 and #2. FIVE!

Regular DM.

Regular Newsstand

75 Cent Canadian

35 Cent DM

35 Cent Newsstand

How crazy is that?

And for the record, I've been looking for them since the early 90's, looking through old OPG Updates.

Also for the record, I've never owned a single one.

I had also found an Amethyst #1 35 cent price variant at a different Vintage Stock store a few years ago (paid $1 for it I think). I submitted it to CGC and it came back 9.6. I sold it to a boardie about 2 years ago for around $100. I regret selling it because they're now going for a heck of a lot more than that. I also picked up an Amethyst #1 75 cent Canadian price variant on eBay last year (still have that one). Believe that was from a board member too.

I am ignorant about this but why are the 35 centers more expensive then the 30 centers? I know they are both rare but..........

I believe there were fewer test market cities for the 35 centers as well as a shorter duration. Also, they are much tougher to distinguish from the regular versions compared to the 30 centers which often had a gaudy starburst surrounding the price. Still there are some 30 centers that are as tough if not tougher than 35 centers to find.

I think Both 30 & 35 were supposed to have been released in 6 test Markets and both ran for 5 months through all of Marvel's regular lines. I used to believe that the numbers of existing copies for both should be very close but there not, I think it was JC that said long ago "that the numbers are not even close on 30's & 35's" but I thought I knew better back then, boy I know now I was very wrong. And even the tough ones do not compare, there are probably at least 5 to 1 or more on the 30 cent Westerns and Fury's compared to the 35 cent ones "I guess the print runs dropped off a little on those by 1977 so maybe that has a little to do with it". 2c

I had a list of all of the Marvel 30 cent and 35 cent variants. As stated above, the 35 centers are tougher to distinguish because nothing makes them stand out other than the price. The 30 centers however are a different story. The starburst is quite common on the 30 cent variants, but not all of the 30 cent variants are in the starburst - some are in circles and some are in squares. So I revised my Marvel 30 cent variant list to show which ones are in circles, which ones are in starbursts and which ones are in squares. Here's the complete list of Marvel 30 cent price variants:

Man that bidder war on Doctor Strange 25 was insane.

Tough book. It did not surprise me.

Blurry photos that could have been a 1.0 or a 9.0 or anything in between. That WAS insane.
