HELP - Will Eisner "The Spirit" piece done for 1997 San Diego Comic Con

32 posts in this topic

Hey Folks,

Hope this is OK to post here.

I bought a great Will Eisner piece that was allegedly used for the 1997 San Diego Comic Con program.

But when I got my hands on the program the piece was not in there.

Please read my post over at the "comic art section", maybe someone can help me here!

I am sure a lot of people have been to the San Diego Convention in 1997 and maybe you can check to see if the piece is in any of the material that you picked up at the show ?!

Thanks so much!!!!

Andy

Eisner also did the SDCC Expo print in 2000.

If you Google my first post, it takes you straight to a page on Kitchen's site with an image of the print, and there's one in stock for $15.

Your artwork is proving more difficult to track down.  As an Eisner fan, I wanted to find out a bit more, but it's quite elusive. (shrug) Email Denis Kitchen, I think.

I have sent Denis Kitchen an E-Mail the other day, but have not heard back from him. I went through his website, maybe someone has a different contact information for him ?

Would love to hear if he recalls this piece somehow....

You may want to contact Denis Kitchen as he's handled a boatload of Eisner's artwork and may have some insight on the piece

Just go to FaceBook and search for Jackie Estrada and send her a PM. She handled all PR and communications (programs, etc.) for the SDCC back then. She'll help you - she's very nice.

Thanks "Moondog".

I really appreciate this. I know most people are on Facebook.....I just never got into this Facebook thing....

Currious to hear what and if she remembers anything..

Also she might have some of the publications from back then...

This really is a great idea.

Jackie just sent me a note. The artwork you have is to the cover of the 1997 Comic Book Expo program book. She said it was printed in color.

The CBEX was (still?) held in conjunction with the SDCC in the 90s. The programming was directed to retailers and all the big publishers and distributors were there. I attended all of them until 1997.
