questions before i can make a guess: is the cover attached to the lower staple, is that a tear next to the cover price, and what's up with the writing below the E in superboy. it's close enough to the color of the sky that it might be treated as CT...

Looks like light pencil that someone attempted to erase. The gloss has been "rubbed" away but there's no indentations from the pressure of the pencil writing.
