Busy day today! Picked up a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #700, read it, and posted a review of the main story line over at Nerdspan.

Thanks guys! I have to admit, I was a little worried since I was writing and publishing it all in the same day (so I'm sure there will be one or two typos I overlooked). But I wanted to try and strike while the moment's hot!-)

The school year has not been terribly forgiving when it's come to free time, so my articles have been fewer and farther in between this semester. Still, I was able to finish the final two parts to my analysis of Rob Liefeld's first few issues of Youngblood.

Hope you enjoy!

So Forrest, was reviewing these wretched books a case of "suffering for your art"? ;) I can't imagine anything more unappealing than revisiting that dreck

lol

In some ways, it's kind of funny to read the stuff. But... probably not funny for the right reasons :) I will admit that it can be a bit painful at times, and I have had to revise these pieces a number of times to be as fair and even-handed as I can be. However, I need to cover the original books before I can really show how far the new stuff has taken the company. So, yeah, a little suffering :)

Unfortunately, the website where I was reviewing comics (Kabooooom!) seems to have gone under indefinitely. However, I ended up finding a new venue for continuing my informal writing gig! So, in addition to my serialized work on Image Comics through Sequart, I'll be doing more frequent short reviews of current (and previously published) comics on Nerdspan.

To kick things I reviewed the controversial (sigh) Amazing Spider-Man #700, which I previously posted. For my second review, I decided to look at two single-issue comics produced by Becky Cloonan.

And for what it's worth, at $.99 each for digital copies on Amazon, it's hard to beat.

Here are my final thoughts on Rob Liefeld's first issues of Youngblood as part of my serialized book, Sharpening the Image. After this, I have longer, one-part article on Jim Valentino's Shadowhawk coming up, and after that, I'm taking a break from the early 90s and will be jumping into some more contemporary titles for a bit.

Anyhow, thanks to those of you reading the reviews and I hope you enjoy them!

So I got a review copy of this wild book from a publisher out of the U.K.--Tabella Publishing. Very indie. Anyhow, the artist is from China and the impressionistic book covers his experience there. Absolutely gorgeous artwork but not at ALL mainstream. This is definitely the sort of thing you'd want to take your time processing.

Here's the review up at Sequart:

Last one for the day guys--I PROMISE! I just got a little behind in posting links to the reviews the past week or so. :foryou:

Probably the biggest news is I was recently invited to begin writing regularly for Newsarama. You can see my first reviews for them here where I cover Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill #1: and Masters of the Universe Origins: He-Man #1

So, it's been a busy few weeks for me in terms of writing : )

Here's the next part of my ongoing series reviewing the work of Image Comics--both the early (eventually) the new stuff. This one tackles the first few issues of Jim Valentino's "Shadowhawk."
