Interesting discussion about exclusive deals

347 posts in this topic

Can someone dummy this discussion down for me? It's a bit convoluted. Please tell me if I'm understanding this controversy (or "controversy" if you prefer).

CGC does not allow exclusivity (with their service).

DWC gets "exclussive" access to certain people for signatures, in that the person signing agrees to only do signatures through DWC. DWC will then charge whatever they feel is prudent.

Ergo, DWC has exclusivity of CGC SS for that artist by default, since you can't access that artist unless you go through them.

Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

It is correct that this is what is being complained about.

It is not correct that this is actually the case.

Care to explain why?

If I as a dealer/facilitator cannot submit books under my account unless I pay a "fee", how is that not monopolizing the situation?

If I cannot get a signature from Stan unless I go the route DWC wants me to go there is an issue if no exclusivity is to exist.

I have dealt with many other dealers and facilitators, and there is always a professional courteousy extended. From what I have read and experienced this is not the case with the Stan signings.

I was only speaking in regard to whether or not there is a monopoly where people have no option except to sub through DWC for Stan SS books. There is no exclusivity based on the fact that DWC are not the only ones who have signings with Stan. Plain and simple.

As far as the fees go that are charged when DWC is handling a signing with Stan, that's another matter entirely.

The problem is being forced to pay a fee to DWC at a "PUBLIC" signing without going through DWC to get your sig.

So DWC is facilitating a Stan signing at a show. I want to get 5 books signed by Stan and put under my account. Please let me know my options if I do not want to go through WDC or pay a fee to put books under my own account?

If it's such a point of contention perhaps you should bring your concerns to the attention of the powers that be at CGC. As I stated previously if they don't have a problem with the way things are being handled then there's not much that can be done about it. (shrug)

That is the topic.

No, the topic is "Interesting discussion about exclusive deals". It says nothing about fees.

And apparently pie now as well.
