RIP - Carroll Shelby

The guy was definitely a legend in automotive circles.

 

For those of you that had not heard it, this is an interesting bit that has been passed down through the years. I remember reading it years ago in an old Road and Track or Car and Driver magazine.

Legend has it US racing driver Carroll Shelby would tape a fifty dollar bill to the sun visor and invite unsuspecting passengers to try and grab it when he demonstrated the original Shelby Cobra’s acceleration off the line. Back in the ‘60s the 271hp and 0-60 in 5.8secs of the earliest cars must have felt outrageous to the average punter, and then Shelby gave them the 427…

 

He did a lot for racing and later for street cars.
