My initial thought was the same "nah, they can't be doing this," but honestly, you never know. The reason I posted this here is because I wanted to know if anyone had a similar problem or even a bookplate with the same number.

I do find it weird that both replacements copies came with bookplates that are 1) signed only by Seeley when it should be both, and 2) the Seeley sig looks a little bit different than his regular sig. Just look at the way the letter "S" looks, the "Y" at the end and even the "12."

Again, I'm only presenting the evidence so that my fellow boardies can opine, so take it for what it's worth.

I did reach out to Seeley also, so I will update you all when he eventually replies back.

I doubt Challengers would be stupid enough to make a limited edition run of 200 and then start forging signatures and re-using numbered prints but you never know.

this. I doubt they would risk soiling things between them and everyone else by doing this. have you contacted challengers since you received them to ask them about it and inquire why the lower numbers and without the other signature? if so what did they say, if not--why not ask them directly?

and in the numbers game:

we have #181/200

I ordered two Challenger Comics exclusive “Revival Vol 1 - Ex Libris Challengers” trades with bookplates signed by Seeley and Norton on eBay. They mailed them in a USPS Priority Mail envelope with no added protection. My mailman bent the package in half and stuck them in my mailbox, thus damaging the books. Even though this happened, I still left positive feedback for them and then emailed them a suggestion about packaging books securely so they don’t incur this type of situation in the future. They replied back soon, apologized and said they would mail me out two replacement books, which they did.

So these are the two original books:

These are the replacements:

So, two things I noticed are that Norton’s signature is missing in the replacement bookplates and that Seeley’s signature looks slightly different (look at the S).

I met Seeley at NYCC this year and he and Norton signed a few books for me. I’ve compared the sigs and those sigs on the replacement books that Challenger Comics sent me look mighty suspicious. Add to that the fact that Norton’s sig is not on them and that just makes this smell funnier than a barrel full of fish!

I didn't bother to reach out to them again, but it’d be the nail in the coffin if I found someone else who has bookplates 54/200 and/or 73/200 with both sigs on it… Remember these are supposed to be limited to 200 only. So, anyone else have a similar issue with their bookplates?

Why not just email them and ask? I found them very easy to work with while I agree their packing was not very good mine got here safely.

Mine too were not padded/protected at all thus bring folded by my mailman and stuffed in my mailbox. Luckily they weren't damaged miraculously but it still made me rage and step on my cat's tail by mistake.

Poor cat...
