History of the World, Part 1 (I'm still waiting for part 2... Oh Pee-Boy!)

Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams

Tarzan, the Ape Man (sure it's not great, but it had 2 solid hours of Bo Derek naked!)

Special nod to a film that was released in November of that year...

TIME BANDITS

The Shining

Caddyshack

Friday the 13th (The original)

The Fog

Raging Bull

That was a great summer...

Friday the 13th Part 2 was in April, however.

The rest of the year was good too.. Thief, Excalibur, Nighthawks.

Pardon my ignorance - is this a scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

face-slap.gif

It is, without a doubt, the finest 25 seconds in any motion picture every created or shall ever be created!!

Phoebe Cates turned more boys into men with that scene than Playboy.

Correct.

It is not a scene from Fast Times. It is THE scene from Fast Times.

I saw FTRH, but the "movie" that I had the most adolescent fun was the movie "Zapped" that was in 1982 also...

127150.jpg

It was very cheesy, and yes Scott Baio was the lead role - but it was a cool flick were a guy gets telekinesis powers and was making all the high school girls shirt pop open! What kid in Junior High didn't want to have that power...

The best thing was that at the end it was really paying a homage to the movie Carrie, because they attack the Baio and hit him in the head and he makes everyone at the prom naked! HELL YEAH!

1989- Batman. End of thread.

It's not the thread for which year in the movies had the most Tim Burton leather fetish fantasy films.

And even if it was, that would be Batman Returns in 1992 anyway. lol

The Shining. I would argue one of the greatest films.

My personal favorite. :cloud9:

Film historians largely regard 1939 as the greatest year ever for movies:

Gone With the Wind

The Wizard of Oz

Wuthering Heights

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Stagecoach

Of Mice and Men

Goodbye, Mr. Chips

Young Mr. Lincoln

Gunga Din

...to name a few. Son of Frankenstein in there too!

And if we're talking decades, nothing tops the seventies... The Godfather... 'nuff said.

The Alamo Drafthouse here in San Antonio is running a Summer of 1982 extravaganza . Each Friday of the summer, they take a movie that opened that week in 1982 and play the 35mm print on the big screen. On Jan 24th I will be in line for a viewing of John Carpenter's The Thing.

Not one cult classic on that list.

No Repo Man

No This is Spinal Tap!

No Night of the Comet

Sorry, 1939 had some good movies but the quantity and variety just aren't there.

The 1970s had some very good movies (Jaws, Clockwork Orange, etc.) so you may have a point there but one movie by itself (Godfather) isn't enough to close the case. Not sure if I would give the crown to the 1970s but you culd make a strong case.

Porky's also came out in 1982, but was omitted from the list.

I'd rank it above most, if not all, of the ones they put on it.

Maybe it was because I didn't see Porky's until I was well into adulthood and maybe because it was built up to me too much by childhood friends who did see it when it came out...but when I finally saw it, I didn't laugh once. It's not even that it's too low brow as I love low brow (shrug)

i must be seriously out of touch but other than Blade Runner, Road Warrior and E.T, there isn't a movie on that list i'd watch again.

Do yourself and watch The Thing. Wrath of Khan wasn't bad either.
