What is "X-Men Forever", and why Cyclops has apparently stunned Cap and holds his shield?

 

X-Men Forever was started by Chris Claremont. It's an non canon story that takes place out of regular continuity.

 

The premise is that #1 took place after Chris Claremont's last in canon X-Men issue. So it's a chance for him to come back and continue his story.

 

However, since its clearly non canon it's written that way. Some of the chances he took have been good, others have been real stinkers. The series gets mixed reviews.
