5.0, maybe a 5.5 on a good day is my guess.

I'd guess cream to off-white pages with tanning inside covers. I've sent in a few Atlas books from the mid to late 50s with chips like that. This one pictured below slabbed out at a 5.0, with a few of those chips along the right edge and top overflash. I haven't had time to scan it yet in its holder.

Here's my old ST #41, that got killed for the chip on the right edge. I can't remember if there were more defects on the back cover or not, but I was pretty disappointed when this one came back in a 5.5 holder.

Thanks for the scans with the Atlas Marvel Chips, really helpful...The 39 looks better than the 41 yet it graded lower. The 41 has the exact same chip as mine tho ....Probably a flip of the coin between 5.0 and 5.5 but I will hold out hope for the 6 haha,,,,

The scan really makes the colors look washed out, but this has really deep rich colors plus a lil gloss. Also we know scanners magnify imperfections so the defects tend to fade away when you hold it at arms length.

My gut told me 5.0. Was holding out for a 5.5.

I think they did count the marvel chips as a production defect - cause it scored a CGC Universal 6.0 which was my dream.

Lots of you hit it out of the park. Thanks for your insights!

CGC census - 13 universals higher. Scarce tough early issue and I didn't pay an arm and a leg! Happy dance! :acclaim:
