Form Or Function

A simple (and hopefully perceived as a relevant) quesiton:

Given a choice between two comics to keep for your collection:

comic A has a classic super-cool, toe curling cover but only "just ok" stories

comc B has a "just ok" cover but classic super-cool, toe curling stories?

Which would you choose? I am still deciding this one!

No doubt that CGC has shifted a lot of weight from contents towards covers.

I think that this is a permanent change that will cause issues with

a debut story of a famous artist to appreciate at a slower rate unless

they also have a great cover. The victims will be books like More Fun #14,

#101 or Walt Disney's C&S #31: why would you want to pay for a famous

first something if you can't open the case and see it?

If it is slabbed, keep comic A. If they are raw, u can afford to keep both & re-read comic B for your pleasure.

No no no, Scott Teneman! I am not asking about slabbed vs unslabbed etc. I am simply asking: what do you prefer- cool cover or cool story.

None of that tree-hugging CGC ! grin.gif

Cover, since who reads those silly stories anyway? It's the CGC slab that counts, big guy! lol...

Wow...a kindred spirit...actually I prefer Cover vs story too...love the art...and I can't read...a hidden shame that's plagued me and brought me down all my life...I can't take it no more..

No brainer: stories.

I would have to say the same... though I am always more than willing to buy a book because it has a particularly cool cover. The thing is, it makes me sad when they have to sit in a box. So here's an add-on question: do you display any books that you particularly adore or are they all safely tucked away? If you do display, how do you do it? And of the ones you store, where do you keep them?

I don't believe that is true, the market for MF 14 and WDC&S 31 (and most Disney) was depressed BEFORE CGC entered the market. MF 101 is still hot, I know many collector's who would kill for a high grade copy even without Superboy on the cover. Look at the new market, our largest submissions for moderns are not based on the cover at all, but on the story and/or interior art.
