In this rare first issue, the incomparable Bill Ward produced a lasting image of lush sensuality - the classic lovers in a moonlight embrace. As Michelle Nolan states in her groundbreaking book on the history of romance comics, "Love on the Racks": "Quality Comics displayed polish and production values seldom seen throughout the industry. Quality's high-toned style made it the M-G-M of romance publishers, all glitter, glamour and variety."

 

This gorgeous 8.5 Crowley copy is the 3rd highest grade, behind the 9.6 Mile High and the 9.2 Crippen. These books hardly ever change hands in public, only surfacing once every 5-10 years, if that. You would be hard pressed to find high grade key Ward romance outside of the very few pedigrees that have some romance - Church, Crippen and Crowley.

 

When it comes to romance artists, there are the four that stand out above all the rest - Baker, Kirby, Cole, and...Bill Ward.
